Town of Sahuarita

INSIDE TUCSON BUSINESS:  Mon., March 19, 2007

Sahuarita rejects plan for sewage

In the battle between the Town of Sahuarita and the developer of Rancho Sahuarita over the future of the town’s wastewater treatment and reclamation facility, Sahuarita’s voters sided with the developer.

Of the 3,313 votes tabulated, 56.5% favored developer Robert Sharpe’s initiative requiring the Town of Sahuarita to get voter approval to expand the town’s wastewater management area.

The results of the March 13 vote rejects the town’s plan to add more acres of potential residential property to the wastewater service area, which would have required an increase in the treatment facility’s capacity from 490,000 gallons to as much as 3 million gallons per day.
