Experience the Outdoors Right at Home
Outdoor rooms are becoming a popular feature in all homes. Whether you're building a new home or own, outdoor rooms (often referred to as Arizona Rooms) increase not only the value of your home, but the quality.
“Building an outdoor room provides a relaxing outdoor living space where homeowners can spend time with family and friends,” said Greg Miedema, Owner of Dakota Builders.
Studies have shown that people tend to spend a lot more time at home than they did five years ago. Building an outdoor room enables you to spend much more time outside, while still being comfortable and relaxed.
“There are many ways to enhance the enjoyment and productivity of your outdoor rooms,” said Miedema, a SAHBA member. “By installing certain amenities in your outdoor room, you are able to create a relaxing and entertaining atmosphere.”
Commercial-style grills are strongly recommended.
“About 65% of grill owners use propane,” said Miedema. “This allows the grill to heat up and cool down quickly, making them safe and efficient.”
Using a gas grill also prevents any ash or dust. Natural gas hearths offer a cozy touch and are very easy to install. They include a range of fireplaces, gas logs, and gas campfires.
“Propane and natural gas patio heaters can extend the use of an outdoor room into the cooler months,” said Miedema. “Most models include adjustable temperature controls and are equipped with safety features.”
Outdoor lighting fixtures and lamps are available in portable, wall-mounted and post-mounted styles, and are easy to use in remote locations such as outdoor rooms. Mosquito eliminators also are highly recommended. They can protect up to an acre of land from these biting pests.
“Also, you can equip your room with outdoor kitchen features such as refrigerators, bars and even a TV,” said Miedema. “This can provide a comfortable, cozy environment to enjoy meals and the great Tucson sunsets with your family.”
