County will pay $4.3M for 133 acres at Canoa Ranch
The county spent $6.6 million - $1,435 per acre - to buy 4,600 acres at Canoa Ranch in 2001.
Yesterday, it agreed to pay $4.3 million - $31,579 per acre - for 133 acres next door.
The price difference is partly because the county rezoned the higher-priced land, owned by Fairfield Canoa Ranch LLC, in 2001.
The 2001 rezoning was part of a compromise from a lawsuit Fairfield filed after an earlier rezoning request was denied. Fairfield sued demanding the county either buy the property or rezone it.
